Slightly Bored Flâneur Strolling Nostalgic Depths of Postconceptual Objectivity
I started taking photos when I was 14. At that time, the Soviet Union collapsed, and a series of difficult socio-political changes impacted all social, economic, and political areas. My passion for photography coincided with the dismantling and literal fall of the Soviet Union's industrial heritage. My first photographs were taken with friends while having fun and demolishing abandoned factory sites. Even later, as an artist, I kept my interest in entropy-filled landscapes. Now, after about 35 years, I return to the old places and landscapes of my childhood to photograph the familiar, but with a new perspective. I seek evidence of a long-lost time through artistic intervention and emotional connection to particular places and memories.
